Open-mindedness

Following from my previous post on supernatural explanations for unexplained events, I was delighted to find this entertaining video on the topic of open-mindedness. Seems it's been making the rounds, but if you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth checking out. (For a précis, see the blog mental indigestion.)

Not only is it visually clever, the content is quite good. What's more, the author, who goes by the intriguing moniker Qualia Soup, has produced a bunch of other good videos.

Great video, Nick! Mr. Spock would love it. Say-- the new Star Trek movie is fabulous, BTW. If you haven't seen it, it's a "must see."

Went to see it with my son on Sunday night! Ever since, I've had a strange compulsion to make the Vulcan peace symbol with my hand and to spout Star Trek catch phrases like, "Cap'n! She canna take any moore!"

But on the subject of logic, one Spockism that I canna take any moore is his line about "Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." (It was in one of the movies, where he sacrificed himself to save the Enterprise.) In fact, this is an ethical statement, not a logical one.

Ok ... there ... that's out of my system!
